Clean Refrigerator Condenser Coil to Maintain Energy Efficiency

Clean refrigerator condenser coil once in a while to keep up the energy efficiency

The efficiency of your refrigerator goes down because of dust build-up on the condenser coil. So, these coils need to be cleaned once in a while to keep up the refrigeration efficiency.

Safety first

Before cleaning the coil, fully disconnect the fridge from all power sources. Disconnect all lines, including any water supply pipes, and move the fridge to a secure location for easier access.

Locating the condenser coil

In modern refrigerators, the coil is usually located underneath the refrigerator. In older models, it may be found on the back. Sometimes, the coil is inside a panel, requiring its removal for access. Refer to the refrigerator’s maintenance manual for guidance and use a flashlight to locate and inspect the coil for dust buildup.

Using a refrigerator coil brush

To clean the coil effectively, consider using a refrigerator coil brush or a paintbrush for accessibility. These long brushes can penetrate deep into the coil for thorough cleaning.

Vacuum the coil and fan

After brushing, vacuum the coil to remove visible dust particles. Take care not to damage any components during cleaning. If accessible, also vacuum the refrigerator fan, as dust may accumulate on the blades.

Note: If you’re unsure about cleaning the refrigerator coil, it’s advisable to seek professional assistance. Aim to clean the coil at least once a year to ensure optimal efficiency and performance of your fridge.
